Tottenham Hotspur are willing to listen to January offers for Eric Dier and Pierre Emile Hojbjerg
According to The Athletic [subscription required], two key starters under Antonio Conte, Eric Dier and Pierre Emile Hojbjerg, are reportedly on the brink of departing from Tottenham Hotspur.
The January transfer window holds immense significance for Tottenham. Under Ange Postecoglou’s management, the team had a strong start this season, but injuries and suspensions have significantly affected their performance.
Dier initially faced challenges in securing playing time but has recently seen more frequent appearances for Spurs. He was called upon multiple times when Micky Van de Ven faced injuries. However, it’s suggested that the 29-year-old might not align well with Postecoglou’s system due to his more traditional style of play.
He has been an integral member of the club since 2014, boasting an impressive record of one of the highest appearances in Spurs history, with 362 matches under his belt. This English defender serves as a reliable anchor on the defensive line. However, with the arrival of new manager Ange Postecoglou, there’s an urgent push to revamp the squad entirely, and players like Hojbjerg might be among those departing in the summer.
Following his transfer from Southampton to Spurs in 2020, Hojbjerg swiftly became one of the team’s pivotal players. With 162 appearances to his credit, he has contributed ten goals and sixteen assists. Yet, his prominence in the team has declined since the start of this season. At 28 years old, he’s not considered a young player anymore.
Evidently, the Australian manager is in dire need of substantial reinforcements from the upcoming transfer window without substantial expenditures. Generating adequate funds is crucial for revitalizing a lackluster squad.
