Tottenham Hotspur remain interested in the Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher

According to Sky Sports, Tottenham Hotspur is maintaining their interest in Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher ahead of the upcoming 2024 transfer window. During the 2023 summer window, Spurs pursued his signature, but the Blues opted to retain him, prioritizing more playing time for the player within their squad.

Gallagher has consistently impressed, particularly under the management of Mauricio Pochettino, showcasing his abilities by assuming the captain’s role on multiple occasions. His leadership was evident in leading the team to victory in the recent Carabao Cup quarter-final against Newcastle.

With only 18 months remaining on Gallagher’s contract, the outlook at Chelsea remains uncertain. There’s a possibility of extending his contract with the club, but if an extension doesn’t materialize, Chelsea might consider a sale in 2024.

To facilitate the purchase of a striker, Chelsea could potentially opt to sell Gallagher in the January transfer window to raise necessary funds. For Tottenham, securing the services of the talented playmaker would be a significant opportunity should Chelsea make Gallagher available for transfer.

In 20 matches across all competitions this season, Mauricio Pochettino’s team heavily relied on their young star. However, despite this reliance, Chelsea appears willing to sell him if a substantial offer emerges.

According to Ange Postecoglou, safeguarding against injuries, especially in crucial positions like defense, is the primary concern for January. Ben Davies has stepped in to deputize at center-back.

Another promising player, previously on loan at Chelsea from Crystal Palace, might follow the path of recent departures like Mason Mount, who made a hefty £60m move to Manchester United in the last summer transfer window.

Given Postecoglou’s ability to get the best out of his players, bringing Gallagher to Tottenham could become a win-win for all parties. The Englishman will add experience and dynamism to a key area of the Spurs roster.

It remains uncertain at this stage whether Chelsea have any interest in Hojbjerg. However, it is believed that they are in search of another midfielder with a defensive focus if Gallagher decides to depart from the club.
