Yves Bissouma’s suspension might be the ideal chance for Tottenham Hotspur to make use of Oliver Skipp
According to Football.London, with Yves Bissouma‘s suspension, Tottenham Hotspur can make the right use of Oliver Skipp who can gain playing time and thereby leading to an increased confidence.
One positive aspect of Ange Postecoglou‘s constant selection challenges is that it gives each player in his Tottenham squad a chance to prove themselves. With a string of injuries and suspensions plaguing his players, Postecoglou has had to think outside the box to maintain Spurs’ competitiveness.
Spurs manager Postecoglou said:
“Most of the time he has been coming on in games where we need some energy further up the park and that’s the role he has fulfilled, but he can play at six and probably will play there. We have three games over the next week so he probably will get an opportunity at some point in that position and with Biss being away pretty much until the end of January, I am sure we will use him in that space.”
Now, Postecoglou’s focus shifts to the central midfield, as Yves Bissouma will be unavailable for the next four matches before Pape Matar Sarr and the Malian and Senegal teams depart for the Africa Cup of Nations in January. Maddison is set to return in the New Year, while Rodrigo Bentancur will be out until February.
Skipp, who previously represented England Under-21, has only been allowed to start in two matches under Postecoglou. These matches include the 2-2 draw against Brentford at the beginning of the season and the disappointing Carabao Cup third-round loss to Fulham in the same month.
In addition to his two starting appearances, he has also made 11 appearances as a substitute, one of which was during the match against Nottingham Forest on Friday night when he came on as a first-half replacement for Brennan Johnson due to a concussion.
With Tottenham’s midfield facing a shortage of players during the busy holiday period – Lo Celso’s availability for Saturday’s match against Everton is also uncertain – Skipp will have the chance to showcase his skills. This presents him with an opportunity to demonstrate that he can still be a key player for the club, just as previous managers had anticipated.
In their last 20 meetings in the league, Everton have been worn down by Tottenham where we lost only once against them. But with his team hit by a 10-point penalty for breaking financial regulations in November, Sean Dyche’s side has regained determination.
