Jordan Pickford praises Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario for his outstanding performance
According to the BBC, speaking in the post-match interview, Everton and England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford praises the Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario for his outstanding performance.
Pickford says:
“We didn’t have our best of starts but their goalkeeper had a great game and on another day we get a win or a draw.”
As Christmas approaches, Tottenham are currently in fourth place on the Premier League ladder. We have accumulated a run of three successive victories, including the scruffy win over Everton.
Having goals scored by Richarlison and Son Heung-min coupled with Vicario’s incredible performance, Spurs held the visitors at bay despite many chances, in a masterful exhibition in London.
Ever since Vicario joined Tottenham from Serie A side Empoli in a £17.2million deal in June, he has proven to be an indispensable asset for the team. He quickly established himself as one of the top goalkeepers in the league, stepping up to replace the long-time captain Hugo Lloris.
Everton’s loss could be chalked up to the narrow margins working against them and a standout display from the Spurs custodian, Vicario.
Everton was furious when a goal by Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the 50th minute was disallowed by the VAR due to a foul committed by substitute André Gomes during the build-up.
The story just skimmed the surface, missing out on what Everton had in store for a thrilling last ten minutes. There was a surprising turn of events during the game: the visitors’ impressive four-game winning streak in the Premier League finally coming to an end.
During this highly entertaining match, though, it was difficult to see why they lost but it was also crucial for us to win as we did to ensure our title-challenging hopes were still alive.
