Ange Postecoglou surprisingly doesn’t want Tottenham Hotspur superstar Son Heung-min to win Asia Cup
Tottenham Hotspur will suffer a big blow as Son Heung-min is set to depart from the club for international duty. It is no secret that the South Korean superstar has been preparing to take a leave from the club.
The Lilywhites have had terrible luck with injuries this season. Their entire roster is stretched thin and we have even seen the likes of Ben Davies play as a centre-back at times. That alone should tell you how dire the situation at Tottenham is.
While talking to people at The Daily Mail Postecoglou jokingly said that he doesn’t want Son to win the Asian Cup. He then went on to explain that the cup holds the same level of importance as other international competitions like the Euros.
Let’s have a look at what he had to say about the situation. (h/t The Daily Mail)
‘I hope Sonny goes on and finishes runner-up to Australia again, mate,’ he told reporters.
‘I’d be really happy about that.’
Some might try to spin this around and make Postecoglou look bad. However, this is surely nothing more than a playful jibe that a coach has taken at his player. We’re sure that the Australian-Greek coach will be giving Son Heung-min the best of wishes for the tournament.
If the Tottenham skipper can perform the same way that he has for the Lilywhites winning the Cup might not be too big a dream. The 31-year-old has recorded 11 goals and four assists over 19 appearances this season (Transfermarkt).
Richarlison who has also been in stellar form will need to show up big time. The team will be looking towards the Brazilian once their skipper takes a leave. This is an oppurtunity for the 26-year-old to cement his place with the Spurs.
