Tottenham Hotspur interested in the Liverpool defender Joe Gomez
According to the Metro, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing the talented Liverpool centre-back Joe Gomez in the winter transfer window.
In 2015, Gomez made a £3.5 million transfer from Charlton Athletic to Anfield. Over the years, he’s become a vital player for his team. However, this defender greatly influenced their victories. He played his part in seven title victories! His participation stretches over 197 matches across all types of competitions.
Hit by a hard period mid-season caused by injuries and suspensions, Ange Postecoglou’s squad is now on the upswing. They aimed for their fourth consecutive win versus Brighton this Thursday but a much organised Seagull side showed their worth winning the game by a 4-2 scoreline. Postecoglou had to piece together a central defensive pair – Emerson Royal and Ben Davies.
Postecoglou has been vocal about his need to strengthen the defensive side of his team in January. He understands that any further setbacks could have dire consequences for their top-four ambitions. Regrettably, the Lilywhites have been dealt another blow as World Cup-winning defender Cristian Romero has suffered a hamstring injury, which is expected to sideline him for the next four to five weeks.
Nevertheless, it seems that Liverpool has no intention of parting ways with their versatile defender during the ongoing 2023-24 season. In addition, the Reds are depending on the player as their sole first-team left-back choice after the injuries to Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas.
It seems that Gomez, whose contract is due to end in June 2027, might be considering a move away from his current club to find greater recognition. If he were to join Spurs, he would certainly add some healthy competition to Romero and Micky Van de Ven.

Considering Joel Matip’s injury and uncertain future, it seems highly improbable that Liverpool would allow a player with such versatility to depart from the club. Tottenham will need to look for other options as Liverpool are expected to reject their attempts to lure Gomez away from Anfield.
