Lisandro Martinez among 5 Manchester United stars set to return vs Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham Hotspur will play their first Premier League game of the year 2024 against Manchester United on January 14 and a familiar face should line up for the Red Devils that night.
Erik ten Hag’s side have been porous at the back and have struggled to keep opposition attackers at bay this season. While United, admittedly do not have the worst record in the top 10, their inability to score goals adds further pressure on the defence.
Tottenham, with their high energy attacking brand of football could be a poor matchup for the Red Devils. But Erik ten Hag will now be set to welcome several key players, making his task easier on paper.
Lisandro Martinez was a cornerstone in United’s promising 2022/23 campaign and his absence has hit the side hard this season. He is recovering well and is expected to return against us later this month.
According to the Evening Standard, the Argentine is not the only United ace set to return. The likes of Mason Mount, Casemiro, Harry Maguire and Tyrell Malacia are all in contention to feature. While we cannot vouch for their match fitness, the numbers will offer United more flexibility as far as team selection is concerned.
Tottenham are no strangers to injury concerns with Postecoglou having to do so without key first XI stars. The primary concern remains in central defence with both Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven both sidelined.
The former is still a few weeks away from being available but the latter is expected to return against Manchester United. Manor Solomon and James Maddison are also backed to return this month but whether it will come against the Red Devils remains to be seen.
