Tottenham Hotspur defensive midfielder Pepe Matar Sarr breaks silence on his injury
According to Football.London, Tottenham Hotspur defensive midfielder Pape Matar Sarr who has been exceptional under the new manager Ange Postecoglou breaks silence on his unfortunate injury just right before his AFCON games.
There is some hope that Tottenham player Pape Matar Sarr’s injury from playing with Bournemouth on Sunday afternoon may not be as bad as first thought. The midfielder helped Spurs start the game well by scoring a goal in the first ten minutes.
Ange said:
“Pape felt his hamstring and he’s emotional because he wants to go away with his national team. It’s a big tournament for them. It’s kind of the way our season has gone. He was so good again early in the game, apart from his goal, and then he gets an injury.”
Sarr had to leave the pitch prematurely, only 30 minutes into the match against Bournemouth on New Year’s Eve. The Senegal international scored the opening goal, but was substituted just 20 minutes later.
The extent of Sarr’s participation in the upcoming African Cup of Nations is now uncertain. It is not all doom and gloom at the N-17 as Spurs have welcomed Rodrigo Bentancur back into the team.
The 21-year-old player managed to score his second goal of the season, taking advantage of the early pressure from Spurs. He skillfully dribbled the ball to find space outside the Bournemouth area and then unleashed a precise low strike. He was later substituted by Oliver Skipp, and his departure from the pitch was marked by visible tears.
Sarr was a member of the Senegal team that emerged victorious in the 2021 AFCON, although his contribution was limited due to his young age. He made an appearance in the semi-finals victory against Burkina Faso, but apart from that, he spent the rest of the matches on the bench as a substitute. Ever since, he has established himself as a consistent presence in the lineup and was poised to become a key player for the team.

Several key players are currently unavailable for the Spurs boss, including James Maddison, Micky van de Ven, and Cristian Romero. Additionally, Yves Bissouma will be absent due to suspension and his participation in AFCON with Mali. However, we remain optimistic that he can recover in time and play a pivotal part for his nation
