Tottenham Hotspur have learned about a sell-on clause in the contract of Ivan Toney.
Tottenham Hotspur have long been on the trail of Brentford striker Ivan Toney, as reported by The Sun. The Lilywhites will have to beat out Arsenal and Chelsea for the player as their Premier League rivals have also expressed interest in the 27-year-old.
According to Sky Sports, both Peterborough United and Newcastle United will receive a sum due to a sell-on clause that exists in Toney’s contract. A smart move by both clubs as they were right to bet on the English striker’s future potential.
But a sell-on clause is not enough to dissuade Postecoglou from the player’s trail. If Tottenham are to sign the player they will anyway have to pay a fee for him. It doesn’t matter a whole lot how that fee is divided and where it ends up going.
The real challenge that the signing of Toney poses is Arsenal. The 27-year-old would prefer a move to the Gunners. Tottenham must move fast if they wish to steal him away from the clutches of their rivals.
Ivan Toney has been excellent for Brentford throughout his stint. He has made 124 appearances for the club and has recorded 68 goals and 21 assists during that time (Transfermarkt). These are insane numbers for any Premier League striker.
But, Tottenham’s trail could turn cold now that Richarlison has come to life. After being subpar for pretty much the entire season up till now, the Brazilian has now scored five goals during his last five outings/
