David Ornstein provides Tottenham and Conor Gallagher update
The Athletic’s David Ornstein believes that even though the interest in Chelsea star Conor Gallagher is genuine, Tottenham do not have the funds to pull it off and might need to offload a few players to get the 23-year-old on board.
Gallagher has been one of Chelsea’s best performers this season in the middle of the park, providing balance in a squad that certainly lacks it. He has been the part in terms of attacking scenarios and has also been defensively strong.
Moreover, the former Crystal Palace loanee has captained the side in the absence of regular captain and vice-captain Reece James and Ben Chilwell respectively and has excelled in that part of his game as well. Tottenham could do great with a box-to-box player like Gallagher, and that is exactly what Ornstein spoke about referring to the Lilywhites’ previous interest and chances of landing him now. Here is what he told Vibe With Five.
“Sometimes it just comes down to economics and they’ll have something to think about in January but maybe they won’t. It depends on what comes forward.
“People have rightly pointed out that Tottenham retained an interest in him. They tried to sign him in the summer window, and they may come back again but to go to that level that I mentioned around £60million Tottenham are going to need to shift some significant players to raise the money for it.”
Gallagher to the Lilywhites?
The imminent departures of the likes of Ben Davies, Eric Dier and possibly Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg could raise the funds required to get Gallagher on board at Hotspur Way, but the question that arises is whether or not Chelsea would want to part ways with arguably their best performer this season.
The intricacies of the January transfer window often involve a delicate balance between financial manoeuvring and strategic acquisitions. For Tottenham, the pursuit of a player of Gallagher’s calibre reflects a commitment to strengthening the squad and addressing specific areas of need and the midfield is surely one of the areas that needs reinforcing.
As discussions unfold in the coming weeks, Tottenham supporters will sit eager to see how the club navigates the complexities of the transfer market and whether Gallagher could emerge as a key addition to their midfield ranks.
