Tottenham captain Son Heung-min was elated with Pape Matar Sarr signing a new long-term contract

Son Heung-min has always been the smiling assassin and with an ever-infectious beam on his face, he welcomed Pape Matar Sarr with open arms after the latter signed a new long-term deal with Tottenham Hotspur.

Captain Son seems to be an inspirational presence for the youngsters. The way he seems to welcome Pape Sarr cannot be put into words. It was indeed a heartwarming moment for all Spurs fans around the world. This can be seen in the club’s official Instagram handle’s post.

Pape deserves his new contract. The Senegalese midfielder has been in pristine form since the start of the season. He has hit new heights in Ange Postecoglou’s system and is one of the first names on the team sheet.

It did help that Rodrigo Bentancur was unavailable for the start of the season, but Pape still had to take his chance. Starting ahead of the likes of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Oliver Skipp requires a special mention.

Pape’s new contract at the club sees his commit his future until 2030. That’s a very long time in a footballing world. If the 21-year-old hits the heights destined for him, he would be one of the best in the world by the end of his contract.

How much will Spurs miss Pape?

It is scary to think that Sarr will just be 27 years old when his contract expires. He would not yet have entered the prime years of his career. Spurs have a midfielder sorted for at least a decade to come if not more.

The talented young midfielder will be away on international duty with Senegal in the African Cup of Nations. Considering how integral he has been this season, just how much will Ange Postecoglou miss Pape?

Football, the beautiful game that it is has an amazing storyline. Pape started the season thanks to Bentancur’s long-term injury and has gone from strength to strength. Guess who is now back fit and ready to play just as Sarr leaves for the AFCON! The Uruguayan is back.
