Tottenham close in on signing RB Leipzig star Timo Werner on loan
In a surprising turn of events, Tottenham Hotspur have inched closer to securing a loan deal for the dynamic forward, Timo Werner, from RB Leipzig, with the option to make the move permanent at the end of the season.
The 27-year-old German will be flying to London shortly for his medical, and Spurs have agreed to cover his wages for the remainder of the campaign. That is as per BBC.
Werner has decent Premier League experience as he had a hot-and-cold spell with Chelsea. In 2020, he made a high-profile move to Stamford Bridge from RB Leipzig, becoming part of Frank Lampard’s ambitious project at the time. During his tenure with the Blues, Werner made 89 appearances across all competitions.
However, he returned to RB Leipzig in 2022, seeking new opportunities and challenges. Now, with Tottenham, Werner aims to make a significant impact on the English top flight once again with the long-term aim of securing a spot within the Germany squad for the upcoming Euros.
Werner’s ability to operate across the front line adds a layer of tactical flexibility for Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou. Known for his pace and intelligent movement off the ball, Werner’s style of play aligns with Postecoglou’s attacking philosophy, emphasizing high-tempo football and dynamic forward movements.
Despite enduring a slightly challenging season at RB Leipzig, where he scored two goals in 14 appearances, Werner’s decision to move to Tottenham has been met with enthusiasm from both fans and the club’s management.
The forward was notably absent from Leipzig’s recent friendly against St Gallen due to ongoing transfer talks, signalling the imminent conclusion of negotiations with Spurs.
