Lisandro Martinez and Casemiro far from fit ahead of Tottenham clash

In a major boost for Tottenham, two key Manchester United players might not feature against Spurs this Sunday in the Premier League. The duo of Lisandro Martinez and Casemiro may both still be weeks away from a return to action, despite having been back in training for a long time already.

That is as per Metro. Martinez has remained out since September due to a foot injury, while Casemiro last played on 1 September as he has a hamstring issue. Even though the pair stood in the reckoning to return to action this month, United boss Erik ten Hag did not display a lot of confidence when it came to these players.

“They are a long time already back on the grass and now they return back into team training but not fully, so partial.”

“Now they have to make the next steps and that may take some days, I think even weeks.”

Speaking ahead of United’s clash against Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup, the Dutch tactician had some things to say about Martinez and Casemiro on the lines of being in team training only partially, and the next step might take a few more days, potentially weeks.

Martinez, in particular, is a big miss for Tottenham. He scored one of two goals for Tottenham in the 2-0 win earlier this season after Pape Matar Sarr opened the scoring just minutes into the second half.

Team news for Spurs?

Not that both players were great against Tottenham the last time the sides met, but they remain crucial players for Ten Hag. In their absence, United have had five losses in the Premier League since their 3-0 loss to Manchester City.

In their last five fixtures, United have lost three. They won 3-2 against Aston Villa and “won” 0-0 against Liverpool at Anfield. Tottenham, on the other hand, have lost only once in their last five games.

This upcoming game against the Red Devils will be the first Premier League encounter for Spurs without the services of skipper Son Heung-min and midfield star Pape Matar Sarr, both of whom are out on national duties with South Korea and Senegal in the AFC Asian Cup and AFCON respectively.
