Boca Juniors midfielder Ezequiel Fernandes is being targetted by Tottenham Hotspur scouts
Tottenham are on a roll and they are currently chasing Boca Juniors star Ezequiel Fernandes to bolster their squad, per fourfourtwo. Spurs have already landed the Timo Werner deal with Radu Dragusin transfer close to completion. The club will be without captain Heung Min-Son due to Asian Cup commitments.
Ange Postecoglou is also struggling with the unavailability of a handful of first-team players due to injuries. The Argentine youngster is a crucial figure for Boca Juniors, helping them reach the Copa Libertadores final this term. The 21-year-old is renowned for his defensive prowess and deep-lying playmaker role.
The young defensive midfielder was also chased by Brighton, according to One Football (h/t Fichajes). The asking price for the midfielder is £16 million. Should Tottenham secure the Ezequiel Fernandes deal, they would find an answer to Chelsea signing Enzo Fernandez. The Argentine duo share a similar style of play.
The Tottenham Hotspur squad has no shortage of South American talents. This means, adapting to English football might not be a daunting task for the young Argentine.
Is there any slot empty for Ezequiel Fernandes at Spurs?
Tottenham has been struggling with injury woes throughout the season. However, that did not stop Ange Postecoglou’s men from putting up a fight. The immense squad depth has proven fruitful for the Lilywhites head coach. Ange has a mix of youth and experienced squads, particularly in the midfield.
James Maddison’s injury did hurt the squad immediately but Rodrigo Bentuncur, Dejan Kulusevski, Lo Celso, and the others stepped up to fill the void. The manager was aided by his players in defence as well. Micky Van de Ven and Cristian Romero’s absence from the first squad put the Spurs’ last line of defence in shambles.
Much to the surprise of many, Postecoglou was aided by Ben Davies, Eric Dier and the others. In short, there is a place for everybody within the ranks of Tottenham Hotspur. All it would take for Ezequiel Fernandes will be to prove his worth in the training ground.
