Tottenham Hotspur defender Eric Dier is ready to sign for Bayern Munich
According to a tweet on X from renowned Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham Hotspur defender Eric Dier has arrived in Munich for his medical with the former German champions, Bayern Munich.
A transfer agreement between Bayern Munich and Tottenham Hotspur has been reached for the 29-year-old centre-back, involving a payment of €4 million (£3.4 million). Dier is now poised to reunite with his former Spurs teammate Harry Kane in Bavaria, following the England captain’s £100 million transfer earlier this summer.
The defender is slated to undergo his medical examination today as part of the finalization process for his transfer. Reports suggest that the transfer fee for Dier is expected to be around €4 million.
He is expected to sign a contract with the club until 2025 and potentially beyond. This signing is set to significantly bolster Bayern, providing crucial reinforcement in the midfield and central areas, and alleviating the occasional need to deploy Leon Goretzka out of position.
Last week, Bayern and Dier agreed on personal terms. However, the player opted to continue training at Hotspur Way while awaiting approval from the German club. Bayern explored various defensive options to strengthen their team, even making a last-minute attempt to disrupt Spurs’ pursuit of Genoa centre-back Radu Dragusin.
Having joined Spurs in 2014 from Sporting CP for a fee of £4 million, Dier has been a mainstay alongside Ben Davies, amassing 364 appearances for the club. Since the appointment of Ange Postecoglou as head coach in the summer, Dier has made only one start
Cristian Romero has been back to full training and is now in contention ahead of Spurs’ game against Manchester United on Sunday. With Micky Van de Ven also close to returning, Tottenham will soon have a solid roster of central defenders to choose from.
