Tottenham Hotspur outcast Djed Spence moves to Genoa as a loanee as Radu Dragusin moved to London
Tottenham has offloaded their young wingback Djed Spence to Genoa, per Italian football pundit Gianluca Di Marzio. Spence signed for the Lilywhites back in 2022 but he boasts not more than three minutes of playing time in the Premier League.
Immense competition in the right-back position often pushed the English defender down the priority order. Spence achieved fame with his first senior club, Middlesbrough. He has 70 appearances with the Boro. The youngster also collected his EFL Young Player of the Month in 2020 as a Middlesbrough player.
Despite starting his senior career in style, Djed Spence couldn’t quite find his footing. He was loaned to Nottingham Forest in 2021. Spence stayed with Forest that season as a loanee before earning a permanent move to North London.
The Spurs boss Antonio Conte was responsible for bringing the English full-back to Stamford Bridge. Lack of playing time saw Spence move to Rennes and then Leeds. Injury and the subsequent lack of playing time led to contract termination and Spence’s arrival in London again.
Djed Spence a liability for Ange Postecoglou
The Spurs boss is very clear about his goals and his mix of players. Djed Spence was evidently not a part of his plans. Ange Postecoglou was desperately looking for a defender. He preferred a proven figure and that’s how Radu Dragusin happened.
The Romanian defender travelled to London with Spence moving the other way as a loanee. Genoa has earned €30m in the process apart from Djed Spence, per football pundit Fabrizio Romano.
Genoa sits 12th on the Serie A league table, with not so impressive defensive record. Radu Dragusin was arguably the strongest presence in their backline. The Italian outfit will now have to rebuild their squad with the new arrival.

On the other hand, Djed Spence will be looking forward to some consistent playing time and also a permanent home. Meanwhile, the Spurs fans can be delighted about their new player. However, they should hope his disciplinary record does not mirror that of Cristian Romero’s.
