Jan Vertonghen’s teary emoji over Eric Dier from Tottenham sparks excitement among fans
Eric Dier bids farewell to Tottenham Hotspur after being a part of the club for nearly a decade. The 29-year-old took to social media via Spurs’ Instagram to share a heartfelt message. Fans flooded the comments section with emotional farewell messages and good wishes for Dier.
Among them was also a former teammate of Eric Dier. Jan Vertonghen reacted to the post with a teary emoji, expressing his emotions over his former partner’s departure from London. The duo played together for six seasons at Tottenham.
Eric Dier and Jan Vertonghen were two of the regular starters for the Spurs from the 2014-15 season and 2019-20. The duo held the Spurs’ defence quite well and were often lauded for their combination.
Both Dier and Vertonghen cemented their places in the starting XI immediately after arriving in North London. The Belgian joined Spurs in 2012 from Ajax and Dier joined two years later from Sporting CP.
Where are they now?
Dier completed a move to Bayern Munich just a couple of days ago. A busy January month saw Ange Postecoglou sign Radu Dragusin to fortify the defence. The move urged an out-of-favour Eric Dier to push for an exit.
Thomas Tuchel saw the English international’s potential and grabbed the opportunity to bring him to Bayern. The 29-year-old Dier should be able to fare well in the Bundesliga after testing his wit in the Premier League for almost a decade.
Jan Vertonghen left Spurs on a high in by the end of the 2019-20 season. He joined SL Benfica as a free agent and remained there for the following two seasons. The Belgian international moved to his home country after signing with Anderlecht.
