Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel has emphasized the role Eric Dier would don for him as tweeted by Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano. Eric Dier has left Spurs after being a part of the team for nearly a decade.
The versatile defender handled centre-back and right-back roles while in North London. Dier’s new coach shared his opinion on his versatility. Tuchel said,
“He’s a specialist at centre-back. We’re getting him for the centre-back position, can play right or left centre-back as well as in back 3. He also used to play as #6 in the Premier League some years ago”.
Eric Dier has made a bold move switching to Bayern who are stacked with defensive talents. However, the English international’s experience in the Premier League will be something Tuchel would look to cash in on.
Considering his position, Dier has a good 4-5 years of prime left in him. The Bundesliga should be relatively easy for the former Tottenham man after having played in arguably the most challenging league for nearly 10 seasons.
Will Tuchel favour Dier?
Eric Dier’s place in the starting Xi isn’t certain as of now. The back four is occupied by Matthijs de Light, Upamecano, Ben Davies and Joshua Kimmich. These are proven veterans who have been handling things for Bayern Munich.
Tuchel has had his stint in the Premier League with Chelsea. The Bavarian manager realises the strength of having a defender within the ranks who has hardened himself in England.
Bayern Munich faces a threat from Bayer Leverkusen in the title race. The inclusion of Eric Dier is nothing less than an asset for Tuchel. The 29-year-old will have to prove his worth in training to earn a place within the squad.

On the other hand, a manager usually does not waste his substitutions in defence, unless it is a wing-back. Eric Dier’s best chance relies on replacing Joshua Kimmich. The England defender certainly has his manager’s confidence. What lies ahead should be interesting.
