Tottenham Hotspur new boy Radu Dragusin has impressive stats under his belt during his Serie A days
Tottenham Hotspur took to Social Media (Instagram) to announce the signing of Radu Dragusin. While the fans were delighted to see their latest signing holding the club’s jersey, football stats website Squawka Football made an interesting comment on the picture.
Squawka Football has commented on Dragusin’s defensive states on the Spurs post that read:
Radu has arrived 🤍 We are delighted to announce the signing of Radu Dragusin from Serie A side Genoa, subject to international clearance and a work permit.
The comment highlights the 21-year-old’s aerial abilities as a defender. As per Squawka Football, Radu Dragusin has won more aerial duels than any other defender in Serie A this season (59) and has a 70.2% win rate.
Serie A is often lauded as the league of extraordinary defenders. To excel among the best is a massive feat to be achieved at such a young age. This further cements the fans’ faith in Ange Postecoglou’s decision to sign the youngster from Genoa.
Dragusin’s impact on the Spurs’ defensive setup
The reason for Spurs’ downfall following a strong start was their defensive shortcomings. Micky Van de Ven’s injury combined with Cristian Romero’s indiscipline hurt the club where it mattered the most.
The Aussie manager was forced to turn to his part-timers and versatile players to fill the void. However, the gamble didn’t pay off as the club started dropping points at a scary pace. The need for a defender was imminent and thus the manager pushed for the Dragusin move.
Genoa received €30m for the defender. The deal exists until June 2029. The Romanian international is expected to start his Premier League campaign almost immediately. Especially now that the Spurs will be without their skipper Son-Heung Min, who is fulfilling his national duty.
