Tottenham Hotspur defender Micky van de Ven sends a positive message after the Manchester United game

According to Micky van de Ven’s Instagram post after the Manchester United 2-2 draw at Old Trafford the Tottenham star paid tribute to a good job away from home. Even though Spurs came from the back twice, Spurs showed resilience throughout.

Spurs overcame several absences to put on a spectacular show, and Van de Ven was a standout in the starting lineup with Cristian Romero, who also recently returned to action. While they did struggle at times, the Spurs duo dug in and kept United largely at bay.

Within the first three minutes, United took the lead thanks to Rasmus Hojlund. However, Spurs rallied and equalised via Richarlison’s flicked header. They were forced to do it once again following Marcus Rashford’s goal, then again just one minute into the second half when Rodrigo Bentancur equalised.

Both Romero and Van de Ven did an excellent job of defending against United’s assaults; whenever the home team attempted to take advantage of Spurs’ high line, Van de Ven’s speed shone.

The 22-year-old had to be substituted in the dying minutes of the game, as he went down and signalled towards his leg. Van de Ven continued for a while, but Ange Postecoglou made a quick decision to substitute the centre-back and bring on Emerson Royal. Radu Dragusin had already been brought on for his debut.

The satisfaction was evident on Postecoglou’s face as his team maintained control of the ball, consistently holding possession at around 60%. Even when they weren’t in control, they skillfully pressured United into making mistakes, with Dalot and Alejandro Garnacho falling victim, allowing them to regain possession.

The team led by Ten Hag showed great strength, and there was a potential penalty situation when Udogie tightly held onto Garnacho in the penalty area. John Brooks dismissed the appeals, with the VAR supporting the referee’s decision, much to the displeasure of Ten Hag, who expressed his dissatisfaction later on.
