Former Romania player reveals his role in guiding Tottenham star Radu Dragusin to Genoa
Former Romanian international Razvan Rat revealed his role in Tottenham Hotspur star Radu Dragusin joining Genoa in 2022, according to Romanian news outlet DIGIsport. The 21-year-old’s exploits in Genoa earned his a coveted move to Tottenham Hotspur this January. Speaking to the media, Razvat Rat says,
I have very good friends with the people from Genoa. Nobody knows, and Drăgușin can confirm, I participated in his transfer to Genoa. I convinced him to go there at the expense of a team from Holland, I don’t know which club.
The former Shakhtar Donetsk defender further stated that Dragusin wanted to move to the Dutch league after spending two loan stints at Sampdoria and Salernitana. Rat convinced the youngster to move to Serie B outfit Genoa. The club earned promotion the following year.
Radu Dragusin has been instrumental for the Italian side since his arrival. The club boasted a solid defense with Dragusin being their main man.
Was it a decision that earned Dragusin a ticket to England?
Razvan Rat revealed Dragusin’s inclination towards the Dutch League. Should that move have occurred, there are slim (or even zero) chances for the prodigy to find a club like Tottenham. Major clubs often scout for talents within the top-five leagues.
Considering the urgency, Ange Postecoglou would have filtered his options from the top-most leagues. Serie A being one of them played a crucial role in bringing the then-Genoan defender under his scope.
The Romanian international made his debut against Manchester United by replacing Oliver Skipp in the 85th minute. The game ended 2-2. Despite featuring for the Lilywhites for just five minutes, Dragusin managed to put up quite a show. The Romanian had 10 touches on the ball with a passing accuracy of 100%. He also managed to bag an interception and a well-headed clearance.

The challenge that lies with Ange Postecoglou is with giving more playing minutes to his fresh arrival. A player of this calibre cannot be kept on the bench. However, with the return of his defensive unit from injuries and suspension, the task will be quite daunting for the Spurs gaffer.
