Sergio Reguilon reveals he is glad to join Brentford for regular playing time
Tottenham Hotspur wing-back Sergio Reguilon opens up about choosing Brentford. The 27-year-old shared his joy over finding a potential new home, per BBC. The former Real Madrid star said:
“I’m very happy, I think this is what I need now in this moment in my career. I’m in a moment where I need to play consistently and I think this club can give me that. These six months, I will do everything for the team, but it’s also important for my future.
The Bees’ manager Thomas Frank didn’t hold back his words when it came to appreciating the Spaniard. He said:
“This is a very good signing for us. Sergio is a perfect fit for us.”
Thomas Frank focused particularly on the versatility of Reguilon and spoke about how impactful it can be for Brentford. The manager’s happiness should be doubled as he also welcomes Toney Ivans after an eight-month ban.
The topsy-turvy career path of Sergio Reguilon
The Madrid-born defender’s calibre is evident from his CV. He started as a young prospect with Real Madrid Castilla and joined the senior side in 2018 under Julen Lopetegui.
Immense competition within the squad limited Reguilon’s services to his side and eventually, he moved to Sevilla. The Spain international was signed by Tottenham in 2020. Despite enduring a strong start in England, he fell out of favour and was once again loaned out.
He re-visited La Liga with Atletico Madrid until the end of the 2022-23 campaign. Another loan stint awaited Sergio upon return and he moved to Manchester United to fill in for injured Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia. He returned to North London after the end of the contract but was immediately shipped to Brentford, again as a loanee.

Reguilon has been unfortunate to have faced competition for the left-back spot wherever he went. However, this time things should be different. Brentford sit 16th on the league table and just three points away from the relegation zone. Reguilon’s signing and Ivan Toney’s return should change things for The Bees.
