Newcastle United want to sign Tottenham Hotspur target Manu Kone
According to journalist Ekrem Konur, Newcastle United have opened talks as they look to beat Tottenham Hotspur to sign Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Manu Kone.
Tottenham have been investing very smartly in the transfer market. They managed to secure a low-risk loan signing of Timo Werner early in the transfer window. Signing Radu Dragusin was spectacular, especially considering we saw off interest from Bayern.
This shrewd nature of business that is so unlike Spurs in recent years has been a feature since Fabio Paratici made the move to Spurs. The Italian brought in some gems during his time but we didn’t have the right manager to tap into their potential.
Things have taken a turn for the better ever since Ange Postecoglou became our manager though. James Maddison, Micky van de Ven and Manor Solomon have all proved to be very smart acquisitions so far.
Manu Kone falls exactly in the same bracket for a number of reasons. The Frenchman has impressed in the Bundesliga. Considering Spurs are not exactly blessed with depth in midfield (that Postecoglou appreciates), interest in Kone is understandable.
Our own Frenkie de Jong?
If Spurs indeed sign Kone, he offers something very different to the existing options we have – an ability to drive through midfield with the ball at his feet. Reminds you of a certain Barcelona superstar, doesn’t he?
According to FBREF, the 22-year-old ranks in the 99th percentile for successful take-ons, 89th for progressive carries, 89th for tackles, 78th for blocks and 78th for pass completion. Quite the midfield unit, isn’t he?
Kone is different gravy. Having a midfield of Pape Matar Sarr, Yves Bissouma, Rodrigo Bentancur and Manu Kone would give Ange Postecoglou so much opportunity to mix and match as he pleases.

It’s an amazing feeling to be a Spurs fan at the moment. Let’s hope this optimism transpires into results on the pitch. Let’s wait and watch as Ange Postecoglou works his magic.
