GIVEMESPORT’s Dean Jones believes Atalanta’s Ederson might not be the right alternative for Tottenham Hotspur target Gallagher.
GIVEMESPORT journalist Dean Jones compares Tottenham Hotspur target Ederson with Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher, according to GIVEMESPORT.
Dean Jones believes Ederson isn’t quite an alternative for Conor Gallagher. GIVEMESPORT released an exclusive statement from Fabrizio Romano a few weeks back stating,
Postecoglou ‘really appreciates’ Gallagher, but he’s unaware of any direct negotiations between any of the parties involved.
Dean Jones’ comparison occurred right in time as Tottenham are pursuing the Atalanta midfielder instead of chasing Ange Postecoglou’s preference. Tottenham have milked every opportunity thrown at them so far this transfer window. The North Londoners got Timo Werner and Radu Dragusin to fortify the squad.
However, the Spurs boss will be looking forward to signing a midfielder, mostly to act as a second fiddle to James Maddison or to partner with him. The problem comes however in the form of the asking price. The media outlet speculates the price tag set on Gallagher to be £50m.
Considering the amount of money spent by Spurs so far, they should probably look for cheaper alternatives. On the other hand, Conor Gallagher is a trusted aid for Mauricio Pochettino. The Blues boss will do his best to keep his star man in West London.
Ederson’s edge over Gallagher
We used WhoScored.com to compare the duo to find out who dominates whom. The Brazilian has started in 19 games for Atalanta versus Conor Gallagher’s 20 for Chelsea. The Serie A midfielder has five goals under his belt as opposed to Gallagher’s none. The latter has more assists (4) than Ederson (1). Gallagher also has a better passing percentage of 91.1 against Ederson’s 83.5.
The Brazilian’s defensive stats are slightly better than that of the Englishman as well. Considering Spurs’ requirements, Ederson seems like the perfect fit. Transfermarkt values the player at €27 million. But Atalanta will certainly milk the opportunity to set a higher price tag for the midfielder.
Adding Ederson to the ranks will require major strategic and formation changes within The Lilywhites squad. Especially after Heung-min Son’s return. Postecoglou now has several fit and in-form players at his dispersal. The onus is on the manager to keep his players’ morale high and give them regular minutes.

Ederson would not want to join Tottenham to warm the bench. It should be exciting to see how Postecoglou will manage his side and what approaches will he take to gun for the top-four spot and keep his players happy.
