Tottenham Hotspur face Newcastle United threat in the pursuit of Antonio Nusa talks
Newcastle have plans to hijack Antonio Nusa before Tottenham Hotspur nabs him, per Football Insider (H/T The Standard). Spurs were advancing with the talks and the deal almost looked certain. They knew there would be immense competition for the youngster but Newcastle seem closer than they appear.
Ange Postecoglou was gunning for his third January signing but the prodigy was reluctant to leave Belgium mid-season. The Lilywhites did agree to wait until summer or to sign the player and loan him back to Brugge until the end of the season.
Tottenham signed Timo Werner and Radu Dragusin to fortify their squad. The manager requested a midfielder but got stuck on another forward, Antonio Nusa. Nusa has four goals and three assists from 27 appearances across all competitions this season.
Should Ange complete the Nusa deal, it would be interesting to see how the Spurs boss will manage his squad. Especially with two left-wingers, Nusa and Werner.
Newcastle threatening Tottenham outside the pitch
If you consider, Antonio Nusa has more reasons to choose The Magpies over the North Londoners than not. Eddie Howe’s side are not short of money since the Saudi-backed takeover. They are also on the lookout for a replacement for Miguel Almiron.
The Paraguayan is nearly at the exit door with a ‘huge’ offer from Al-Shabab awaiting. This means Antonio Nusa will be a favourite in the starting XI for Newcastle United. The similar wouldn’t have been the case at Spurs.
Timo Werner has reprised his role as a left-winger after ages. The return to his initial position worked in the player’s and the team’s favour as the German managed a crucial assist on his debut itself. Nusa would have had to wait a little while until he found a permanent spot in that same position.

On the other hand, Nusa’s inexperience in the Premier League is something Tottenham wouldn’t have gambled on since they are aiming for the top-four spot. All things considered, Newcastle seems to be the ideal destination for the Norwegian and Spurs will have to grind a little extra to convince the prodigy to join them.
