Former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino recalls a ‘touching’ message from Jurgen Klopp upon being sacked by the club
Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino recalls a warm gesture from the Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp‘s end during his exit from North London. Leading Italian sports journo Fabrizio Romano shared the touching story via his X account.
The incident comes to light following the Reds boss’ shocking announcement to leave Liverpool after the end of the season. Pochettino reflected on his colleague’s decision during the FA Cup post-match interview. According to The Express, he said:
“Today, I was working and received the news. It is really sad. We already missed him. When I was sacked from Tottenham, the first message I received was from him. The job he has done with Liverpool is amazing.”
The now-Chelsea boss was sacked by Tottenham in 2019. We never really know what the message was but it certainly shows Klopp’s compassion towards his competitors. Pochettino also reflected on Jurgen Klopp’s career and wished him well for the future.
Mauricio Pochettino’s ‘rough stint’ with Spurs
Despite the long haul the Argentine had with Spurs, his nature of exit still is shocking from a fan’s perspective. Mauricio Pochettino took the helm in 2014 and remained in London until he was shown the exit gate in 2019.
Even the ‘unexpected’ appearance in the 2019 Champions League final did not save the Argentine’s job. The decision to sack Mauricio Pochettino was taken by the board members after carefully evaluating the drop in performance in the domestic league.
From being second on the table initially to securing just six wins in the last 24 games during the 2018/19 season, nothing looked positive in the Spurs camp. The following season brought no different news as Tottenham amassed just three wins from 12 games.
