Ange Postecoglou cites James Maddison’s ‘long break’ as the reason not to start him against Manchester City
Tottenham Hotspur manager cites ‘missing a lot of football ‘ as the reason behind James Maddison’s exclusion from the starting XI against Man City, per Football London. The former Leicester man came in as a second-half substitute.
Ange Postecoglou in the post-game press conference revealed there was no dilemma concerning James Maddison’s role in the game. He explained:
“I think knowing the nature of the game today, he’s trained well this week and a half but he’s missed a lot of football. We were hoping to get him some minutes tonight which he did and he should be right to go from now on, but there’s another two games next week and we need him and others to pitch in.”
The Aussie manager emphasized James Maddison’s role in the long run. He also mentioned how a slow start would help both parties set the right tone once again.
The return of a hero?
Not many can boast the kind of start James Maddison had at his new club. He collected six assists and three goals to see Tottenham maintain the top position in the league. The ex-Leicester City midfielder was bossing the game alongside Heung-min Son until an injury pushed him off the limelight.
The unfortunate incident took place during the London Derby where Spurs got thrashed by Chelsea. Maddison has since been spending his time nursing the injury. The FA Cup clash versus Manchester City is the first time the fans got a glimpse of their starman since October.
He got just 17 minutes on the pitch. Sadly, the goal was conceded by Tottenham while he was on the pitch. With the FA Cup out of the equation, Ange can direct his players towards one goal – a better position in the league table.
