James Maddison was ‘starving’ to play again
James Maddison is delighted to be back as expressed by the midfielder in the post-match interview with TNT Sport, per BBC Sport. The Tottenham starman returned from a brief injury break and started his first game since October.
He emphasized his desperation to get back on the field and do what he loves the most. Maddison further added,
“First half was stop-start, the kind of first half Brentford would have wanted, a lot of stoppages and set-pieces. In the second half, we had too much for them. It’s never simple and plain sailing here, there’s always a lot of goals at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.”
The Lilywhites turned down a deficit to score three in response within eight minutes. The former Leicester man was instrumental in handing Spurs a much-needed victory. He also played a part in the team’s third goal.
Maddison limped off the field in the 88th minute, leaving the fans worried. However, he was all smiles and applauding while walking back. This means it can only be a cramp.
Make way for Madders
Maddison, lovingly called Madders, has changed the way the team functions, alongside Ange Postecoglou. Tottenham has emerged as a force to be reckoned with. If not for injury woes, there were high chances that the North Londoners would have reigned supreme.
The absence of Maddison left Ange seeking new options within the squad or recruiting fresh talents. He relied on his part-timers to fill the void. Though many did step up to take the role, none could deliver what their number 10 did.
With the 27-year-old back in the squad, Ange had to break some hearts and make way for his star man. Maddison’s return hampers Hojbjerg’s dreams of a permanent role and in a way, also Oliver Skipp’s.
