Tottenham Hotspur have made a sensational $75m offer for Barcelona winger Raphinha
According to Forbes, Tottenham Hotspur have made a mammoth $75m offer for Barcelona winger Raphinha. The Brazilian international could be on his way to the North London club which would mark his return to the Premier League.
Raphinha is no stranger to the English top flight. Having been an integral part of Leeds United during their impressive term in the Premier League under Marcelo Bielsa, the Brazilian winger left when Barcelona came calling in the summer of 2022.
Raphinha’s time at Barcelona can best be described as mixed. Whilst he has had his moments of brilliance under Xavi Hernandez, the general feeling is that he isn’t consistent enough. Injuries have not allowed him to truly realise his potential either.
Last season, the former Leeds United man was constantly in the shadows of Ousmane Dembele, with the Frenchman being Xavi’s first choice for the right wing. This season, everyone expected Raphinha to take over once the winger left for PSG.
Enter Lamine Yamal. The 16-year-old has entered the stage and owned it. Right now, he might be ahead of the former Leeds man in the pecking order. No wonder Raphinha has been linked with an exit from the club, subsequently.
Need to sell?
It’s one of the worst-kept secrets in the world that Barcelona are an institution in a financial mess. Selling players could go a long way in sorting out some of the issues for them and currently, Raphinha is one of the more sellable assets.
The 27-year-old, if he could fetch $75m for Barcelona would definitely tempt Xavi & co. to consider a sale for him. Tottenham Hotspur being interested helps their cause as they don’t need to go around looking for bidders.
Raphinha would suit Ange Postecoglou’s system to the T but the issue is that stylistically, he is way too similar to what Dejan Kulusevski brings to the table. Why would Spurs want two similar players for the same position?

Unless the club have any indication that Kulusevski might be leaving in the summer or unless the Swede transitions into a more central, number 10 role, it won’t make sense to shell so much money for Raphinha. Let’s wait and see what the club thinks though.
