Lazio wanted Tottenham Hotspur star Bryan Gil ‘only’ on loan
Italian media outlet Calcio Mercato reveals the reason for Bryan Gil‘s ‘failed’ move to Lazio. The Tottenham Hotspur outcast was wanted by Maurizio Sarri this January. However, the young winger remains at North London.
The Spanish winger wanted a permanent home after his loan spells. The want became a necessity, especially after failing to secure his spot within Ange Postecoglou’s tactics. Lazio and Fiorentina seemed interested in Gil, but the move did not see its end.
The Spanish outlet cites the reason as the disagreement between the player’s team and the club. Bryan Gil’s entourage wanted Lazio to add a buy option or obligation to buy clause in his loan deal. The Serie A outfits were not keen on anything more than a loan move.
Bryan Gil remains to be with Tottenham as of now, with hopes of finding a new club in the summer. He continues to collect ‘minimal minutes’ under the head coach.
Gil’s nightmare at Spurs
Bryan Gil’s natural position is what costs him a spot within the team. Predominantly a left-winger, Gil often faced competition from the one man no one at the club should face competition from — Heung-min Son! Fighting for a place with arguably the strongest player in the team is sheer misfortune.
But it didn’t end there for the Spaniard. The Spurs skipper’s absence due to Asian Cup duties was expected to hand Gil a much-needed chance in the starting XI. However, Ange signed Timo Werner to fill the void.
The arrival of the German was marked by an immediate entry into the starting Xi, unlike the other January signing — Radu Dragusin. This pushed Bryan Gil further down the pecking order.
