Tottenham signing Lucas Bergvall had two failed trials at Manchester United
New Tottenham Hotspur sensation Lucas Bergvall had two ‘failed trials’ at Manchester United, per Mirror (h/t Football London). Erik ten Hag desperately wanted the Swedish international who wasn’t very keen to join the Red Devils.
Bergvall snubbed Barcelona to join Tottenham Hotspur. Doubts over Xavi’s replacement in the next season were said to be the youngster’s main reason for not joining the Catalan club. The prodigy penned a deal with the North Londoners on the day he turned 18.
He currently continues at Djurgarden. Lucas Bergvall will arrive at Tottenham ahead of the next season. Ange Postecoglou is rebuilding the team and Bergvall seems to be integral to his future plans.
The Aussie manager needed a young and creative midfielder within his ranks. Bergvall seems to fit his requirements. Several players like Antonio Nusa and Kalvin Phillips, ditched the Tottenham offer. This makes the Bergvall signing even more dear for the Tottenham fans.
Erik ten Hag’s piling problems
Manchester United is nothing but a shadow of their glorious past. Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure nearly a year ago has left the club in shambles, something they haven’t recovered from yet.
Erik ten Hag’s expertise at Ajax isn’t handy at Old Trafford. It is a surprise that the Dutchman continues at Manchester despite no significant growth. The manager realises his need for a creative midfielder. He was gunning for Frenkie de Jong for the longest period, all in vain.
His eyes were then fixed upon Lucas Bergvall who is often dubbed as the ‘little version of Frenkie de Jong’. Considering United’s current situation, it is no surprise that the youngster considered Barcelona and Spurs as his options.
