Former Tottenham forward Garth Crooks praises Richarlison while adding him to his ‘Team of the Week’
Tottenham Hotspur player from the 1980s — Garth Crooks, who currently serves as the BBC football pundit, shares his opinion about Richarlison. The pundit says the Brazilian isn’t his favourite but has his respect. He further explained:
“Tottenham and Everton fans will know that Richarlison is not one of my favourite players. But since the departure of Son Heung-min to the Asian Cup the Brazilian has shown a side to himself I didn’t think he possessed.”
The former Spurs star highlighted Richarlison’s ‘uncharacteristic’ behaviours where he’s been dramatic and complaining. However, he also recalled Richarlison’s performances against Brentford and Everton to mention the 26-year-old’s maturity.
Richarlison’s gesture after scoring a brace against his former club surprised Garth Crooks just as any of us. He joined his hands and bowed in apology to the Gwladys Street End. His brace wasn’t enough to grab all three points for Tottenham but it surely was enough to keep The Toffees in the relegation zone.
The Rich-(in form)-arlison
Weird celebrations, mouthing the referees, calling out the opposition bench and whining when substituted — these usually summed up Richarlison’s antics. However, these are stories from the past.
After a failed inaugural season at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and a failed first half of the second season, Richarlison has finally found his footing. The former Merseyside forward has hit the purple patch and is arguably the only consistent player in his side.
Ange Postecoglou always believed in the forward. There has to be a reason why the Aussie head coach deployed Richarlison as his number 9 right from day 1, despite knowing his poor statistics from the previous season.
