Dean Jones expects Tottenham Hotspur winger Bryan Gil to be moved on in the summer
Popular journalist Dean Jones has revealed to Give Me Sport that he expects Tottenham Hotspur to let Spanish winger Bryan Gil leave the club in the summer as he has struggled to make an impact at the North London club.
Gil has been at the club for quite a few seasons now without making a significant impact. This season under Postecoglou was expected to be when he turns his career around but things have not panned that way exactly.
The Spanish winger is the kind of player who would ideally thrive under Ange Postecoglou. He is attack-minded in nature and could still offer a lot to Spurs. However, he has now fallen behind in the pecking order with the likes of Son Heung-min and Timo Werner ahead of him in that position.
The 23-year-old showed a lot of promise during his time in La Liga. He was widely regarded as one of the hottest prospects in the league. His career was destined for the very great but for now, it seems to be stalling.
Speaking about the situation, Dean Jones believes that this summer will be when Bryan Gil leaves Spurs for good. A move back to his homeland might just be what he needs.
“Bryan Gil has got a lot to prove if he is going to have a future beyond this season at Tottenham. I, personally, can’t see it for him. He is the one to really look at in terms of the impact he will have at Tottenham because I think Bryan Gil’s departure is needed to make way for another exciting attacker to come in. They have been linked with Raphinha this week, and I know that they have been looking at players like Nico Williams at Athletic Bilbao as well. They’ve been linked with a couple of other players, too. I feel like he will be moved on at this stage because he has certainly had opportunities to prove himself up until now, but he just hasn’t quite cut it.”
Raphinha for Bryan Gil?
Straight out, does not seem a fair comparison. There aren’t a lot of similarities between the two players except for the fact that they are both left-footed. They even prefer to play on the opposite wings.
Gil is a conventional winger, a left-footer who loves to play on the left side of the attack, drive to the byline and cut the ball back inside. On the other hand, Raphinha is a more modern, inverted winger playing on the right side and cutting in at every possible opportunity. In terms of style, he is much closer to Dejan Kulusevski than Bryan Gil.
Signing Raphinha is a question for a different day but if we get the right offer, we must let Gil leave. Sometimes, transfers don’t work out. We have to accept the reality and let the Spaniard leave and cut our losses.
