Tottenham Hotspur might re-attempt signing Conor Gallagher in the summer
Tottenham Hotspur are reigniting their interest in Conor Gallagher, per GiveMeSport, as learned from Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge. Ange Postecoglou is an admirer of the Chelsea stand-in captain and pursued him in January.
However, the £50 million price tag seemed too much for the Aussie boss during the winter window. He had a busy January onboarding Timo Werner, Radu Dragusin and Lucas Bergvall. The 18-year-old will join the North Londoners only in July.
Should Postecoglou manage to land the Blues midfielder for the asking price, it will be the second-most expensive signing in the club’s history. Tanguy Ndombele (£53m), who arrived from Lyon, remains the most expensive Tottenham signing.
Richarlison (£49.5 m) is currently the most expensive player (and not out-of-favour), within Tottenham’s ranks. The 24-year-old’s contract will see its end next year. Chelsea will have to act fast if they do not wish to let him go as a free agent. Or if they have no plans for a contract extension.
Chelsea nailing their own coffin?
Ange Postecoglou did struggle with injury woes but he was miles away from what Mauricio Pochettino endured. The Blues boss struggled with injury blows and team imbalance. He had access to only a few sets of players and Conor Gallagher was one of them.
Gallagher was not just fit but also remained one of the consistent performers for the West Londoners. His recent display against Crystal Palace is a testament to the same. The midfielder scored two, including a dramatic late winner against The Eagles.
All things considered, a question lingers on everybody’s mind. Why sell such a gem? Well, the answer is simple. Chelsea do not wish to go through what Everton did. The Toffees got 10 points deducted for breaching profit and sustainability rules.
