Tottenham will have to play a friendly game against Djurgarden to sign Lucas Bergvall
Tottenham Hotspur will have to play a friendly match against Djurgarden as a part of the Lucas Bergvall deal, per Football London. The media outlet reveals details of the transfer and the unique clause involved.
Djurgarden’s sporting director Bosse Andersson revealed that Spurs and Djurgarden discussed a more formal partnership going forward between them which “could involve an exchange of players in both directions”, as well as a friendly match in the future to be played in Stockholm between the two clubs.
Lucas Bergvall is one of the most emerging youth talents in Europe. Many clubs lined up for the Scandinavian player but the player chose the North Londoners over them, including Barcelona.
Bergvall will continue to play at his current club until the end of the season and join Ange Postecoglou’s squadron ahead of the next season. The 18-year-old was Spurs’ third signing during the window after Timo Werner and Radu Dragusin.
The story behind the ‘friendly fixture’
There are no concrete stories behind the unique pact between the two clubs. However, it isn’t rocket science as to why the agreement was made. Ange Postecoglou desperately needed an up-and-coming midfielder and Djurgarden needed more recognition.
Sealing the most expensive signing in the club’s history wasn’t enough for the Swedish side, thus, urging them to act smarter. The Allsvenskan club realised Ange’s need and milked the opportunity to put themselves on Europe’s map.
A friendly with a leading Premier League side will inevitably bring them more attention. This could benefit them in future sales and popularity among European football fans. Major clubs are already tapping the Swedish league for prodigies.
