Ange Postecoglou said that Tottenham Hotspur will be giving their best despite the recent loss to Wolves
Speaking to the BBC, Ange Postecoglou said that Tottenham Hotspur will be trying their best to progress this year despite the recent loss against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Postecoglou said:
“We are chasing trying to be the best possible team we can and progress this year to build something. That doesn’t change. Our focus is on trying to finish strong and developing our football team.”
When James Maddison is in form, Tottenham Hotspur also perform well. However, the converse holds as well.
In this match, Maddison had numerous opportunities with the ball but faced difficulty breaking through Gary O’Neil’s well-prepared team. He delivered two crucial passes that could have resulted in goals for Spurs on a different day. However, Wolves effectively prevented him from getting too close to their goal. He only managed to take one shot, but unfortunately, it was off-target.
For a while now, Spurs have appeared to be underperforming. A team that struggles to maintain control throughout matches, giving up numerous opportunities, frequently depending on individual skill to secure victories.
The team lacks sufficient depth to withstand those absences, but this justification won’t hold up indefinitely. Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven have returned for a month already. James Maddison made his fourth consecutive start. Son Heung-min, Yves Bissouma, and Pape Matar Sarr have returned from their recent tournaments and were all in the starting lineup against Wolves. Although Pedro Porro and Destiny Udogie were absent, Postecoglou refused to use it as an excuse.
The team deserves credit for maintaining consistent results in recent months, despite not performing at their peak. They are currently two points behind fourth place, which is a positive position and possibly ahead of schedule for them. At one point, it could be debated that achieving victory despite subpar performance indicated a strong team.
