Conor Gallagher wishes to remain at Chelsea as the 2024 summer transfer window draws near
Tottenham Hotspur‘s ‘favourite target’ Conor Gallagher expresses his desire to stay with Chelsea while speaking to Sky Sports. The 24-year-old has been under the Spurs radar last summer and mostly this January. However, the move never materialised.
However, Gallagher has expressed his wish to grow with Chelsea just as Ange and Co. were preparing for another bidding war. The midfielder says:
“I just want to keep playing as much as I can for Chelsea, keep trying to improve the club and try to be successful at Chelsea. That’s the plan for sure.”
The Chelsea stand-in captain also emphasised the remainder of his contract that keeps him at the club for another year and a half. Conor is enduring a fine run under Mauricio Pochettino despite the club’s terrible form.
The England midfielder was one of the few regular players available throughout for Pochettino. Gallagher believes he can play a huge part in dragging Chelsea back to where they belong.
The bigger the player, more the money
Conor Gallagher’s importance within the Chelsea squad this season cannot be put in words. This leaves a question — why sell him then? Well, the answer is simple: Profit and Sustainability Rules. Chelsea has spent close to £1 billion under Todd Boehly, putting them at risk of the PSR breach.
Selling a homegrown player like Conor Gallagher could bring in a considerable amount of money, alleviating the pressure off the West Londoners. Tottenham have been long-term admirers of Gallagher and they might not hesitate spending big to land him.
However, Gallagher’s recent statement might urge Postecoglou to alter his course as the Chelsea star seems pretty adamant about remaining with The Blues. But, this is the Premier League and anything is possible here.
