Professional wrestler Finn Balor says he has blocked out the 2018/19 UCL final memories
Irish professional wrestler Finn Balor recalls the ‘traumatizing’ 2019 Champions League final, according to The Athletic (subscription required). Balor is a hardcore Tottenham fan, supporting the club since he was seven years old.
The wrestler recalls the interesting event during his tour at the SSE Arena, Belfast. In his own words, the Irishman ran to the kitchen in his fighting outfit after getting out of the ring to watch the semifinal against Ajax.
Balor reminisces jumping around in celebration. He did not resort to watching the final in a kitchen via smartphone but travelled all the way to Madrid for the final against Liverpool. Speaking about the game, he said:
“I didn’t watch the highlights for years. I’d been so traumatised by the game that I blocked it out of my mind.”
The WWE star also expressed his happiness at seeing a new and improved Tottenham under Ange Postecoglou. And yes, he is married to Vero Rodriguez who is an Arsenal fan.
A tricky campaign for Tottenham
The 2018/19 season was a bit confusing for the Tottenham fans. They ended up fourth by the end of the Premier League season where Liverpool bowed down to Manchester City by a whisker’s margin despite securing 97 points.
As for Spurs, they barely secured the fourth place, finishing one point above Arsenal. Tottenham suffered the most losses (13) among the top six that season. Despite that, they ended up in the Champions League final that season.
After tying with Inter Milan on points and GD, they barely made it out of the group table based on ‘goals scored’. A thumping victory against Dortmund pitted them against Manchester City in the quarter-finals.
Once again, the North Londoners dragged themselves to the semis by winning on an away goal basis. A Lucas Moura hattrick in the dying minutes earned them a berth in the final where they lost against Liverpool by 0-2.
