Alan Hutton says Werner has to prove himself at Tottenham Hotspur soon or return to Germany

Former footballer and current pundit Alan Hutton says Timo Werner does not have much time to impress the boss while talking to Tottenham Hotspur News. The German international arrived in North London this January as a plan of Ange Postecoglou’s makeshift plans.

The former Celtic manager was left without his first-team players owing to injuries, suspensions and national duties. Werner marked his debut against Manchester United and provided a crucial assist in the game, helping Spurs draw level with the Red Devils.

He continued the same form against Brentford, securing his second assist. He couldn’t be of much use for the next two games and was benched for the Wolves fixture. Hutton highlights the time limit the former Chelsea man has. He says:

“He’s got a fantastic opportunity in front of him and he has to take it. If not, they’ll look at other options.”

The long-term future of Timo Werner at Tottenham is in doubt

Tottenham signed Werner on loan from RB Leipzig with an option to make it permanent. It remains to be seen if Postecogou and Daniel Levy will require his services anymore.

The Tottenham gaffer is spoilt for choices right now. He has too many options up front in the form of Brennan Johnson, Dejan Kulusevski, Heung-min Son, Richarlison and Werner.

As for Timo, he resumed his position on the left wing under Ange, who is now in the market for young wingers. Werner was dropped to the bench against Wolves and was allowed just 19 minutes of game time. Surprisingly, Tottenham never lost a game when Timo Werner started.

The Lilywhites won against Brentford and Brighton while drawing against Everton and Manchester United. The 26-year-old was a part of the starting XI in all these games. He wasn’t featured in the playing XI against Wolverhampton, the clash they lost.

Perhaps Timo Werner is a silent but impactful presence within the squad. Ange Postecoglou is a tactician and there he would know his players’ potential. The next few months will be a test of patience and calibre for Werner.
