Frank Lebouf is furious about Chelsea midfield choices after missing out on Tottenham star
Chelsea and France legend Frank Lebouf questions Chelsea over not signing James Maddison and allowing him to go to Tottenham while speaking to betting website BetVictor. The former Chelsea man’s thoughts were shared by Chris Whitley, football editor at UK-based media outlet National Wild, via X (formerly Twitter) post.
The tweet read:
“I don’t understand what the owners at the club are doing. Why did Chelsea let James Maddison go to Tottenham last summer? Why did they let James Ward-Prowse go to West Ham? Why are they not at Chelsea? They just want to sign young, talented players on long contracts because they want to make money. They don’t want results.”
Most of Chelsea’s recent signings have backfired. They brought Romeo Lavia and Moises Caicedo after battling with Liverpool for a brief period, but all in vain. The Blues are struggling with their midfield options, with Conor Gallagher the only constantly performing star among their ranks.
James Maddison makes Chelsea envious
In his own words, Frank Lebouf criticizes Chelsea for letting rivals Tottenham sign him. The Blues were so busy with fighting Liverpool that they missed out on noticing Spurs inching closer to Maddison.
This highlights the lack of vision from Chelsea recruits. While their new buys are misfiring, Maddison is enjoying arguably his best-ever season in England. His fine run was however put to a pause by an ankle injury sustained in November.
The former Leicester man had stacked three goals and six assists in nine games. Ange Postecoglou built a formidable attacking unit around James Maddison. This helped the team secure the top spot before their downfall started.
