Tottenham Hotspur star Ryan Sessegnon had successful hamstring surgery on his right leg
Tottenham Hotspur‘s Ryan Sessegnon undergoes successful hamstring surgery, according to The Athletic (subscription required). The 23-year-old is facing a test of patience after another setback and lengthy duration on the sidelines.
The North Londoners confirmed in a statement that Sessegnon will continue to be closely monitored by their medical team to determine when he can return to training. The player took to Instagram to share his pain and thank his well-wishers.
After undergoing surgery last summer, Ryan Sessegnon has missed every Premier League game for Tottenham. He made a seven-minute cameo appearance in the FA Cup third round in January.
The England international picked up another severe injury while featuring for Tottenham’s U21 side on 17th February against West Ham. While Tottenham have almost fully recovered from several injury blows throughout the season, Sessegnon remains constant.
A lost cause for Ryan Sessegnon?
The 23-year-old is patiently waiting for his return to the team but is it a lost cause? There is a stark difference between the Tottenham Hotspur team before his first injury period and now. The competition within the squad has increased manifolds, especially in the defence and midfield departments.
Predominantly a left midfielder, Sessegnon mainly faces competition from Pape Matar Sarr and Rodrigo Bentancur. Ange’s tactics rely on versatile midfielders, which means even Bissouma, Brennan Johnson and Oliver Skipp will be his competition. The addition of Lucas Bergvall will make things more difficult for the London-born midfielder.
Ryan Sessegnon will find it difficult to fit into a dynamic Ange Postecoglou playing style and tactics. The Aussie head coach has already created significant differences within the squad upon his arrival. He aims to create a future-ready team that can gun trophies.
