Eric Dier is all set to join Bayern Munich once Tottenham Hotspur contract expires
Eric Dier moved to Bayern Munich in the January transfer window on loan, calling an end to his almost a decade stay in North London with Tottenham Hotspur.
The Englishman was the second Tottenham Hotspur player to move to Die Roten in as many transfer windows. Harry Kane moved to the German defending champions in the summer and has since set the field alight in Germany.
Meanwhile Dier has been decent but a tad less spectacular. The 30-year-old has already played six times for Bayern Munich, an improvement on what he was privy to at the North London club.
Dier’s diminishing Tottenham Role
With the arrival of Radu Dragusin in the January transfer window, the 30-year-old had fallen further down the pecking order. To gain a perspective, the full-backs Ben Davies and Emerson Royal were preferred centrally over Dier when the first-choice pair of Mickey van de Ven and Cristian Romero were injured.
Dier’s role at North London was diminishing under Ange Postecoglou and an exit was the best choice for all parties involved. His contract at Tottenham Hotspur was running to its conclusion at the end of the on-going season. Daniel Levy did well to get some financial benefits in terms of loan fee before losing him for a free transfer.
Making his Bayern move permanent
According to a report by the ever-reliable David Ornstein via. The Athletic, Eric Dier has now fulfilled the contractual obligations, included in the original deal with Tottenham Hotspur, that were necessary to convert his loan move to Bayern Munich into a permanent transfer this summer. With the option triggered in his contract, the 30-year-old will now stay in Bayern till June 2025.
