Tottenham star Dejan Kulusevski says he does the Lebron celebration after a cold moment
Tottenham Hotspur‘s starman Dejan Kulusevski speaks to former NBA coach and lifelong Tottenham fan Steve Nash about his ‘Lebron James’ celebration. The club’s YouTube channel posted the video of the duo in conversation.
During the segment, Nash asked Kulusevski if Lebron James is his favourite player as the Swedish player mimics the NBA legend’s celebration quite a lot. To which he answered:
“You know my favourite players are actually LaMelo Ball (Charlotte Hornets) and Damian Lillard (Milwaukee Bucks). But I think the celebration is one of the coldest so you know, whenever I do something cold, I just bring it (the celebration) up.”
Dejan Kulusevski has six goals and two assists from 23 Premier League games this season. He has been a key figure for Ange Postecoglou when most of his senior players were injured or away on international duties. The story behind Kulusevski’s celebration has been a mystery until now.
The football x NBA crossover
From Cristiano’s ‘Siuu’ to Haaland’s ‘meditation’, many footballers are often famous for their ‘fancy’ celebrations. Dele Alli was probably the Spurs player with the most iconic celebrations. The ‘Lebron James’ celebration of Dejan Kulusevksi recalls similar incidents around the football world.
Eric Dier is another Tottenham player (rather, former player) to have done an ‘NBA celebration’. He resorted to Golden State Warriors legend Stephen Curry’s night night. Dier did this after scoring against Southampton in 2022. Ousmane Dembele of Barcelona has borrowed the night night celebration as well.
Serge Gnabry’s ‘cooking celebration’ is borrowed from another NBA legend, James Harden. The borrowing act of celebrations is a testament to the growing popularity and intertwining of sports worlds. The segment with Dejan Kulusevski and former NBA Steve Nash is the club’s attempt to market themselves in the United States.

So far, these promotional strategies have been building results. What could be more beneficial is — winning trophies. It remains to be seen whether Ange Postecoglou can make it happen.
