There is no way back into the team for Tottenham loanee Tanguy Ndombele
Tanguy Ndombele arrived at Tottenham with massive expectations complemented by a mammoth price tag. He has failed to live up to the hype and five years later is fighting for his future at North London following three successive loans.
The French defensive midfielder signed for Tottenham Hotspur for a then-club-record fee of £63 million from French side Lyon back in 2019. The N17-based club penned down a six-year contract with Tanguy Ndombele, however, he has barely lived up to the expectations placed on him upon his signing.
In the pre-season of the ongoing season when Ange Postecoglou gave him a run, it was expected he might be looking at an opportunity to salvage his Tottenham career. However, he did not manage to impress the Australian coach in charge of Tottenham and was shipped away to Turkey on another season-long loan.
It has not gone down well in Turkey either, as the 27-year-old’s reported falling out with the manager due to being six kilograms overweight. His attitude and professionalism were under probe after he was seen ordering a burger in his hotel room. This is not the first time the Frenchman’s attitude has been questioned, there are reports that Tottenham’s head coach was left unimpressed by Ndombele’s timekeeping, general attitude, and application in the 2023/24 pre-season.
Journalist Paul Brown speaking to GIVEMESPORT during the winter transfer window about the difficulties that Daniel Levy & Co. are going to face to sell Ndombele. Many believe him to be Tottenham’s worst signing ever.
Journalist Dean Jones, now, has spoken about how the transfer could have gone differently for both, the player and the club, but the ‘attitude and application’ problems has left Ndombele to be labelled a flop at Tottenham Hotspur stadium.
“I don’t see a way back for Ndombele in this Tottenham setup. He is going to go down as a transfer flop. I think that he had an opportunity when Postecoglou first came into the club, and he didn’t impress. The writing has been on the wall for him for a long time now. This could have gone very differently because when they signed them, they were signing a really good player. But whatever it is, and it does feel like a lot of it is attitude and application, is not good enough.”
