Tottenham star Timo Werner details message from players at halftime before his first goal for the club

Football hands you some magical moments, ones that you cherish for a long time. Tottenham Hotspur are harbouring such moments consistently with Ange Postecoglou at the helm.

Yesterday was one of those days that got the Tottenham Hotspur stadium dancing on its feet by the time John Brooks blew the full-time whistle. It was an underwhelming first half with the visitors going into halftime with a one-goal lead, though Tottenham came back with three goals in the final quarter of the game. Timo Werner and Cristian Romero had two quick-fire goals before Son gave them the cushion for the three points scoring Tottenham’s third.

Timo Werner scored his first goal for Tottenham Hotspur and his first since being back in England. He equalized with a brilliant run to the far post to meet Brennan Johnson’s cross into the net.

Despite being a striker, the German international has been deployed on the left flank by Ange Postecoglou, with Son Heung-Min preferred up front. The 27-year-old had a strong game against Crystal Palace over the weekend, stretching the game while successfully retaining the ball in tight spaces and working hard on the defensive side. He did miss that 1v1 situation but that was just a minor blip in an otherwise impressive performance.

The RB Leipzig loanee is fighting for earning a potential move to Tottenham Hotspur in the summer transfer window and he has been impressive since making a loan move in January.

After the game, Timo Werner spoke about the importance of his first goal for the club and how important it was after that big chance he missed.

Werner as quoted by BBC:

“Absolutely, especially after the first half when I missed the big chance. It was important for me and the team that I scored this goal and we came back into the game. They stood behind me at halftime and said I should keep going. That is what I tried. It always feels good when you have a group that says nothing about it. They were supportive. It helps me and the whole team.”

It’s interesting to note how Timo spoke about the team standing behind him during the half-time despite trailing by a goal. This is an example of the cultural change ongoing at Tottenham which shows not only belief but also unity.
