Tottenham stars Romero and Johnson laud Emerson Royal via Instagram
Teammates Cristian Romero and Brennan Johnson commented on Emerson Royal’s Instagram post, cheering him following a brilliant performance against Palace. Tottenham Hotspur overturned the one-goal deficit to make it 3-1 at home by the time the final whistle was blown.
Emerson Royal uploaded a picture on his Instagram page celebrating alongside Cristian Romero with a captain: amazing night today … just this to say 🙏🏾💙. Romero was quick to comment: “Mi hermanitooooooooooo” (My little brother). Brennan Johnson said: My guyyyy 🔥.
The absence of Pedro Porro paved the way for Emerson Royal to make it into the teamsheet once again. The Brazilian put up quite a show against The Eagles. He played the entire 90 minutes with impressive stats. Royal managed 88% (52/59) accurate passes from the game.
He also registered 100% ground duel victories (5/5). Emerson Royal was all over the Palace forwards with six major defensive actions. The 25-year-old recovered the ball eight times from the opposition. Stats sourced from FotMob.
Nerves of steel
Tottenham’s defence was called into question after conceding first at home. However, Emerson Royal and Co. did a fine job of recovering from the blow and supporting the unit. This calls for appreciation as Tottenham’s defensive unit has been criticized lately.
The team has failed to keep a clean sheet since 16 December when they won 0-2 against Nottingham Forest. It was the ninth game after the Forest clash where Spurs failed to stop the opponent from scoring a goal.
Despite the inability to resist the opposition from scoring, the Lilywhites defenders stood up to the occasion. Cristian Romero gave the lead with a fine header in the 80th minute. Micky van de Ven and Destiny Udogie did their parts in the game as well.
