Tottenham ace Vicario and goalkeeping coach Rob Burch take a trip to Barnet to watch Josh Keepey
Tottenham Hotspur numero uno Guglielmo Vicario attends Spurs academy game to watch youngster Josh Keeley in action, according to Football London. Tottenham goalkeeper coach Rob Burch joined him. The duo were at The Hive Stadium, Barnet, to watch the youngster play in the National League on Tuesday evening.
Keeley played for Tottenham’s U21 before switching to Barnet FC at the start of 2024 as a loanee. He has registered 11 consecutive games for Dean Brennan’s team. Vicario’s presence didn’t go in vain as Keeley managed to keep a clean sheet in a 2-0 victory against Rochdale.
Barnet FC and Josh Keeley are well on course for promotion to the EFL League Two. They sit second in the league table behind Chesterfield FC. Keeley joined Spurs from St Patrick’s Athletic and has had the opportunity to train with Vicario in the first half of the ongoing season.
He also spent a considerable amount of time with the other Spurs goalkeepers Fraser Forster, Brandon Austin and Alfie Whiteman during the club’s pre-season training sessions.
Vicario’s impact
The young Tottenham Hotspur academy goalie clearly shares a warm relationship with the Italian shot-stopper. The former Empoli man along with his coach Burch took time to guide young goalkeepers of the Tottenham academy in the middle of January. All goalkeepers from U-9 to U-21 attended the session, including Josh Keeley.
While Guglielmo Vicario’s presence must have boosted Keeley in his performance, it also sends a message of the Spurs number one’s impact at the club. The warm gesture is a testament to Vicario’s positive aura at the club, something that he has achieved in the first season itself.
Vicario had huge shoes to fill when he arrived as the replacement for Tottenham’s cult hero and long-time captain Hugo Lloris. Needless to say, the Italian won the hearts of the club and the Premier League fans almost immediately.
