Tottenham enter chase for chase Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams
Tottenham are said to be considering the possible acquisition of Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams, who has been evaluated by the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, and Aston Villa for a possible transfer in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Despite the 21-year-old Spanish international signing a new deal at San Mamés in the conclusive month of last year, his release clause is said to be attainable. Williams’ previous contract in the Basque Country was set to expire at the end of the ongoing season before a penned a new three-year deal.
Nico Williams could swiftly become the talk of the summer transfer window with Arsenal and Chelsea heavily invested in scouting him as Spurs join the race.
Aston Villa tried to reconnoitre Bilbao with tentative attempts to bring Nico Williams to Villa Park by activating his release clause, both in January and last summer, only to be rejected by the 21-year-old. Villa manager Unai Emery also reportedly boarded a flight to the Basque nation to meet Williams in a private hotel meeting last June but the Spaniard stayed put about his decision to stay at Bilbao.
While Premier League’s London-based trio vie for his signatures, Real Madrid are also said to be interested in a potential move for Nico Williams.
Williams has scored six goals and further provided 11 assists in 27 appearances in all competitions this season.
While for Tottenham, alongside Nico there also have been links to Wolves star Neto and Barcelona’s Raphinha while Ange has a decision to make over making Timo Werner’s loan move a permanent one. Spurs, by the looks of it, are looking for a pacey winger who can have clutch moments while being smart with their movements in behind the defensive line.
