Tottenham coach Ange Postecoglou says Brennan Johnson has been impactful but hasn’t secured a permanent position yet
According to Football London, Tottenham Hotspur head coach Ange Postecoglou believes Brennan Johnson has displayed steady growth this season. The 22-year-old signed for Spurs this season at the behest of Ange Postecoglou on deadline day. By then, Johnson had played three games for Nottingham this season.
The gaffer addressed the media ahead of Tottenham’s much-anticipated clash against Aston Villa on Sunday. When asked if Brennan Johnson’s recent form has made life difficult for him, Ange answered:
“I mean, I don’t know about difficult decisions, they are easy decisions and the good thing about Brennan is that now he is contributing. I think overall his year, we’ve seen growth in him.”
While lauding the youngster, the former Celtic coach also emphasized Johnson hasn’t been ‘consigned’ to the position. He added how every player has an equal opportunity to show how they can impact the team positively.
Brennan Johnson climbing the ladder
He didn’t endure a sudden start to life in north London. It has been a slow and gradual process. The Chelsea clash that took place in November is arguably the most dreadful game this season for Tottenham. However, it has to be quite the opposite for Brennan Johnson.
The 1-4 loss against arch-rivals was followed by a couple of injuries and suspensions, forcing Ange Postecoglou to return to his drawing board. Furthermore, the absence of a handful of starting XI players due to international duties urged the Aussie manager to chart his tactics and formations, paving the way for Brennan.
He enjoyed considerable playing minutes from that moment and has contributed to the team commendably. Predominantly a right winger, the former Nottingham forward has proven his worth on either flank. Johnson has racked up three goals and six assists from 23 games.
