Ange Postecoglou says Tottenham performed just as usual against Aston Villa
According to Football London, Tottenham Hotspur gaffer Ange Postecoglou gave a ‘humble’ response about his team’s performance against Aston Villa. The Spurs boss was addressing the media after Tottenham’s 0-4 victory against Aston Villa. A journo asked him — Is that (the match against Villa) the best performance of your time here? He said:
"I don’t know, it’s a hard one to assess. At the beginning of the year we played some big games, we handled ourselves well. But considering the context of the game, the venue and the opponent, I thought it was as controlled as we’d been in any game all year, the way we handled everything."
Postecoglou went on to talk about the team’s growth and the importance of controlling the game even against quality opponents. While the manager was full of humility despite the commanding victory away from home in one of the most crucial fixtures, many fans would disagree with their boss.
The game against Unai Emery’s men was evidently one of the club’s best performances this season. It is a much-needed positivity for the club’s supporters.
The road ahead
Defeating Aston Villa has brought Tottenham Hotspur one step closer to their goal. The club was gunning for the title for the opening couple of months this season. However, ill fate forced the club to concentrate on securing the UCL qualification for the next season.
They faced an unexpected competition from this season’s emerging team — Aston Villa. The away win has helped the Lilywhites close the gap with the rivals. They now trail by two points with a game in hand.
The Premier League has intensified as Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City are engaged in a heated stand-off for the ultimate glory. The fight for the fourth-place between Tottenham and Villa is fanning the flame.
